It's been a while since I've posted a current picture of the garden. Beans, broccoli, cauliflower and peas are all growing nicely, some faster than others. The slow growing broccoli and cauliflower are still slow growing. Beans and peas on the other hand, are moving right along. Beans are probably the easiest veggies in the world to grow and I don't know why anyone with a garden wouldn't try them. I have a peaked interest in beans these days after receiving some Cranberry Heirloom beans in our latest veggie basket from the organic farm. Going back to my heirloom seed catalog, I say lots of heirloom bean varieties that have me very tempted to try!!
For now, we're sticking with the plan of veggies now followed by flowers later. I've wavered a bit on what flowers I'll be growing over the summer, but I believe it's going to be Nasturtiums. I've never done them before and everything I've read says they are a good flower to have. They attract beneficial insects to the garden and they are also edible.
You may notice in today's garden picture the compost bin is a little sparse, not to worry, that will fill up soon enough once the mowing season is here. With the 1.67" of rain we got yesterday in just about an hour and the warm weather coming, the grass will soon be taking off!
