It's Like Pulling Teeth, Literally!

As Julie mentioned in her blog, it was a big day around here! Olivia had to have her 2 front teeth pulled after a face plant fall on the concrete a year or so at Downtown Disney left them damaged and started an infection on her gums.

Before and after pictures can be found at Julie's blog:

As you can see from her blog, I was allowed to be in the office when the teeth came out. I sat with my daughter on the dentist chair, being the big tough dad who was going to ease her through this. I held her hand for comfort while at the same time being a bit nervous because I know what teeth being pulled out feels like and she doesn't, yet! I watched the Novocaine needle go into her gums, she never flinched. After a number of pokes with the needle, the gums were numb and the time had come. With her eyes still open and Olivia being remotely aware of what was going on, the teeth pulling would begin.

I felt pretty good, pretty proud that she was doing so well. What would come next probably started my stomach sinking without me even realizing it, the dentist pulled out a screwdriver like instrument that resembled something in my garage. I looked on as the dentist worked to remove the first tooth. In a matter of seconds it was out and it would be on to the next. Still, Olivia never flinched. I, on the other hand, felt a slight tingle in my throat followed by a little cough. The dentist asked if I was OK and stated that it was mostly the dad's who passed out when they watched their child's teeth get pulled.

I told the dentist I was fine and turned away not to watch the other one come out. I would spend the next few minutes trying to suppress those feelings of nausea and wiping the cold sweat off my hot forehead.

It was a moment that I'll remember for a long time......the day Daddy nearly passed out!!
