True Colors

With one week to go until Halloween, my goal of having a nice ripe pumpkin is getting closer to being accomplished. When I planned my pumpkin patch this past summer I knew it would be close. The pumpkin that I'm growing is a small sugar that is suppose to mature in 95 days. According to the calendar, I will reach 95 days from planting on November 3rd. It will be a close race to the finish line and with hues of orange appearing on the first pumpkin pollinated I am very optimistic.

Gardening this fall has been more challenging than usual with the long record setting heat wave and critters that keep jumping the garden perimeter fence and digging with great passion. I've lost 2 plantings of beets because of this rampant varmint vandalism. Despite these difficulties the cucumbers are rebounding from near death by heatstroke and the pumpkin vines continue to grow around the garden fence.
