Every once in a while Florida gets a little chilly in the winter time. Frost is not uncommon during December and January. This winter season has been a little different than most I've seen in the past 13 years of living here. The cold came earlier than normal with a frost at the end of October and several chilly nights to follow. We had a bit of a warm up during the holidays and it looked as if spring just might be on the way....until last night!!!
A blast of cold air from the north like I've never scene before settled over Florida. By 9pm my thermometer read 32 and it was falling fast! An hour and a half later I was leaving for work in 28 degrees with a thin coating of ice already forming on the windshield. The temperature continued its plunge and bottomed out, according to my fence line weather station, at 23.7 degrees, the coldest I've ever recorded.
Its brisk and refreshing and feels like winter is supposed to. Although its not the bitter sub zero weather that many of my northern friends and family experience in typical winter, its enough to make a thinned blooded Floridian shiver!!
