Cabbage, Cotton....Peppers and Tomatoes

When I accepted the cotton growing challenge last spring, I had not anticipated having a plate full of cotton or a plant that would get a second wind and grow taller than Olivia. That, however, is exactly what I ended up with along with at least 26 more little football shaped, leathery looking cotton bolls. I'm not sure if its the heat, the burst of rain we've had this month or some mother load of nutrients the roots have tapped into that has caused this growth frenzy, but it has managed to give these 2 cotton plants a significant growth spurt!

While the cotton still grows, its also time to get the garden ready for the fall planting season. Seedlings of cabbage, peppers and tomatoes all sit in peat pots just waiting for me to get the ground tilled and a fresh load of compost worked into the soil. I'm waiting for one of those not so hot and steamy mornings to get the tilling process started.
