The Big Chill!

What a difference a month makes! Summer decided to hang around for October giving us some 90 degree days and setting the tomatoes ablaze with growth. A month later, 16 garden peach tomatoes picked, and the big chill of the last few nights may end my record breaking season early!! The garden thermometer bottomed out at 44 degrees this morning. I haven't met a tomato plant yet that stuck around much after 40 degree temps. Leaves on the marianna's peace tomato already show shades of purple which usually follows a cold snap.

I was certainly hoping for a longer tomato growing season, but this unusually chilly air for November may force me to start broccoli and cauliflower sooner than expected! They are cool weather crops and stand a better chance in the cold than did the 'maters.
